Globalstar satellite network

Globalstar operates as a regional satellite network comprising thirty-two satellites orbiting across the equator. These satellites function independently and require visibility from ground stations, which are limited in number on land, resulting in areas with no coverage.

The network operates in both duplex (bidirectional) and simplex (one-way) modes. In duplex mode, which facilitates voice and low-speed data transmission, the satellites cover Europe, the Americas, Australia, North Africa, parts of Asia, and a portion of the Middle East.

On the other hand, simplex coverage is more extensive and experiences fewer discontinuities.

E-SAT serves as the national representative for France within the Globalstar network.

Globalstar technology overview :

Globalstar services

The Globalstar network facilitates voice communications and low-speed data transmissions of up to 9.6 Kbit/s. This makes it particularly suitable for voice communication, especially in the maritime sector, where users prioritize this network due to its high-quality audio codec.

For low-speed data transmission needs, Globalstar offers a Short Burst Data (SBD) service along with price plans that include allowances in kilobytes. This ensures users have the necessary capacity for their data transmission requirements, making it a versatile option for various applications.

Globalstar terminals

As of today, portable devices from all manufacturers (Ericsson, TELIT SAT & Qualcomm) under the Globalstar brand are no longer in production, available for purchase, or supported. It’s important to note that some of these terminals have been in circulation since the early 2000s, dating back to the commercial launch of the Globalstar constellation.

Currently, only certain accessories remain available for purchase. These include the marine Kit GIK designed for maritime use, featuring antennas with varying lengths of cable, as well as passive or active external antennas and private handsets. However, accessories for outdated handheld terminals are no longer stocked.

Globalstar has shifted its focus towards tracking beacons and unidirectional messaging devices such as the SPOT GEN 3 or SPOT Trace, as well as bi-directional beacons like the SPOT X.

E-SAT exclusively offers equipment that is approved for use in Europe, ensuring compliance with regional standards and regulations.

Internet of Things with Globalstar and E-SAT

E-SAT offers simplex or duplex beacons in the form of core modules for developers of the SmartOne and STINGR range. Some core module that are really compact with power supply (cable or batteries) integrate GPS chip. Core module is configure, associate to an sensor (alarm, trigger…) to send a SBD type message. Core module price is The price of the core module is almost symbolic and the associated SBD pricing is very advantageous which makes it possible to envisage a consequent deployment of core module (beacons) for a project. Applications are numerous in industrial field for equipment surveillance, remote control, fault detection, follow and geolocation. In this context and in partnership with a developer, we offer our clients an access to a Web platform to manage their tags. The platform adapts itself according to each project, application and the information and messages collected. The access to this platform is paying and dimensioned according to the project.

For the energy, maritime and processing sectors, Smart One beacons adapt to your needs. E-SAT assists you in the realization of your project from the choice of the beacon to its integration on our platform.
