This is an Important firmware upgrade, meaning that issues fixed by the firmware have an important benefit to all users. This firmware is Not Critical, i.e. phone and text services will continue to function without this release. But we strongly recommend to install it.

Inmarsat is pleased to inform you that a new, updated and combined BGAN and FleetBroadband version of LaunchPad has been released. This new release combines support for all current BGAN Land Portable, Land Mobile and FleetBroadband terminals. Features include small installer package and language support for all terminals in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French and Russian. IsatPhone Pro users will be able to send and receive data thanks to a new firmware upgrade.
The new circuit-switched 'plug and play' data capability will offer an effective data rate of up to 20kbps for plain text emails, and enable users of the global handheld satellite phone to send jpegs, PDFs, Word documents and other commonly-used file formats.
The data capability will be part of the next firmware upgrade planned for 31 March 2011.
In addition to the data capability, the next firmware upgrade for IsatPhone Pro will feature a number of other service enhancements which will be outlined shortly.

Inmarsat has announced that it has ordered three new satellites from Boeing in order to launch a new mobile broadband service with speeds up to 50Mbps and small size terminals for the land, maritime and aeronautical markets. This huge investment will target new business opportunities in the VSAT services.

Following the official launch of the Isatphone Pro, Inmarsat’s latest satellite handheld, E-SAT was selected by Inmarsat to carry some Beta tests with selected customers on the field.
First tests showed some very good performances regarding the voice quality this comparing to other satellite networks. Sending SMS and GPS positions through local French GSM Operators turned out successfully.
